About Working with Me

What makes your approach different from other resume services?

Many resume services operate as quick transactions: you submit information and receive a formatted document.

My process is intentionally different.

Before writing a resume, I spend up to two hours learning your career story, asking detailed questions about your accomplishments, responsibilities, and goals. Clients often discover achievements during this conversation that they had never considered including on their resume.

With more than 20 years of experience helping professionals navigate hiring processes and career transitions, I understand how employers evaluate candidates and which signals help someone stand out quickly.

The goal isn’t just to produce a well-written document.

It’s to create a resume that positions you as the solution to the problem the role was designed to solve.

You’ll receive your completed resume within one week (often sooner) after our consultation.

Do you guarantee interviews if we work together?

No ethical career professional can guarantee interviews or job offers.

The hiring process is influenced by many factors outside anyone’s control, including the job market, internal hiring decisions, and timing.

What I can promise is that when we work together, your resume and positioning will clearly communicate the value you bring to employers, and I am fully invested as a partner in your success.

The majority of clients begin receiving interview requests after implementing the strategies we develop together, often within days of submitting their new application material.

Just as importantly, clients leave with greater clarity and confidence about how to present themselves in the job market.

How do I know if I need a resume rewrite or just feedback?

Many professionals assume their resumes only need minor updates.

However, during our conversations, it often becomes clear that their experience hasn’t been fully translated into the kind of impact employers are looking for.

A resume review provides detailed feedback and recommendations so you can strengthen the resume yourself.

A full rewrite is best when you want your experience strategically positioned and translated into a resume that clearly communicates your value to employers.

If you're unsure which option makes the most sense, I'm always happy to help you decide.

Why is your resume service priced differently from some online options?

A strong resume isn’t just about formatting or keywords.

It’s about translating years of professional experience into a clear narrative that quickly communicates value to hiring managers.

My work reflects:

• more than 20 years of experience in job placement and career strategy
• a highly personalized consultation process
• deep discovery conversations to uncover accomplishments
• strategic positioning aligned with the roles you want

This level of customization takes time, but it results in resumes that communicate a candidate’s value much more clearly than template-based services.

Will my resume be optimized for applicant tracking systems (ATS)?

Yes, the resumes I create are designed to perform well in these systems while still being clear and compelling for the human readers who ultimately make hiring decisions.

This means your resume will be:

• structured in a way that ATS systems can easily read
• strategically aligned with the types of roles you're targeting
• written to clearly highlight accomplishments and impact for recruiters scanning quickly

The goal is to create a resume that works effectively for both technology and people, helping ensure your experience is recognized and understood as quickly as possible.

What if I’m not ready for one-on-one services yet?

That’s completely understandable.

In addition to my consulting services, I’ve created online trainings and digital resources that share many of the same frameworks and strategies I use with private clients.

These resources are designed to help job seekers strengthen their resumes, better understand how recruiters evaluate candidates, and navigate the job search with greater clarity.

They can be a great starting point if you’re not ready to invest in one-on-one support yet.

What if the first resume draft isn’t exactly what I was hoping for?

While almost every client I work with is thrilled with their resume right away, occasionally someone feels the document isn’t quite there yet.

If that happens, we reconnect to talk through what’s missing or what could be stronger, and I refine the resume accordingly.

My goal is always to make sure your resume truly reflects your story and positions you well for the roles you want next.

Your resume service includes:

• A deep-dive consultation (up to two hours) where we unpack your experience, goals, and accomplishments
• A professionally written resume crafted from that conversation
• One round of additional refinements if something still doesn’t feel quite right

That refinement round is typically focused on adjustments rather than rebuilding the resume from scratch, but it allows us to polish the final details so the resume feels exactly right.

In practice, I’ve never had a client walk away dissatisfied after that additional refinement process. My goal is not only your success in the job search, but your complete confidence and satisfaction with the final resume.

What happens after I book a service?

After booking, you’ll automatically receive a calendar confirmation with a link to your virtual meeting.

Before the meeting, please email:

• your most recent resume
• one or two job postings you’re interested in pursuing

You can send these to:

kkirchner@kirchnercareers.com

This allows me to review your materials in advance so our time together is focused and productive.

During our meeting (which can last up to two hours), we’ll walk through your work history, accomplishments, career direction, and the types of roles you're targeting.

After our conversation, I craft job application materials and strategy designed to clearly position you for the next step in your career.

How quickly will I receive my resume and other application documents?

Clients typically receive their completed application documents within one week of our consultation, and often sooner, depending on scheduling.

Because the process begins with an in-depth consultation, the writing phase is highly focused and personalized.

What types of professionals do you usually work with?

Most of my clients are professionals with several years of experience who want help positioning themselves for the next step in their careers.

Many are navigating:

• competitive job searches
• leadership roles
• career pivots
• promotions or advancement opportunities

My work focuses on helping experienced professionals clearly communicate their value in a crowded hiring market.

Common Resume, Interview, and Job Search Questions

Below are answers to some of the most common resume and job-search questions professionals ask.

Why am I not getting interviews even though I’m qualified?

Many professionals come to me feeling confused and discouraged because they are applying to roles they are clearly qualified for, yet they are not receiving interview invitations.

What most people don’t realize is that the hiring process often moves very quickly at the early stages. Recruiters may review hundreds of applications for a single role, and during the initial screening, they typically spend only a few seconds scanning each resume.

Because of this, candidates are rarely evaluated based on their entire career history. Instead, recruiters are looking for quick signals that someone can solve the problems the role was designed to address.

Many highly qualified professionals are overlooked not because they lack experience, but because their resume does not communicate their impact, results, and relevance quickly enough.

When accomplishments and outcomes are positioned clearly, hiring managers can recognize a candidate’s value much faster

If you're curious why qualified candidates still get skipped in the hiring process, I break down exactly how recruiters scan resumes in this video.

How long should a resume be?

The length of a resume is often less important than what is actually on the page.

Recruiters typically spend only a few seconds scanning a resume during the initial review, so the most important factor is whether your experience and accomplishments are presented clearly and are relevant to the role you are targeting.

In general, a good rule of thumb is two pages or less for most professionals. However, every career path is different. In some cases — such as academic roles, research positions, technical specialists, or senior executive leadership positions — longer resumes may be appropriate, as these roles often require more detailed documentation of experience, publications, or leadership responsibilities.

Rather than focusing strictly on page limits, it is usually more helpful to focus on clarity, relevance, and impact.

What do recruiters actually look for on a resume?

Recruiters are usually trying to answer one key question:

Can this person solve the problem this role was created to solve?

To answer that quickly, they look for signals such as:

• measurable accomplishments
• relevant experience
• leadership or initiative
• career progression
• alignment with the role

Resumes that focus primarily on responsibilities often make it difficult for recruiters to quickly understand a candidate’s value.

When accomplishments and outcomes are clearly communicated, recruiters can recognize a candidate’s impact much faster.

Do applicant tracking systems (ATS) automatically reject resumes?

Many organizations use Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to manage job applications.

However, the idea that resumes are automatically rejected by an algorithm is often misunderstood.

In most cases, resumes are first organized within the system and then reviewed by recruiters or hiring managers.

The real challenge is ensuring your resume is written so it can be parsed correctly by the ATS,  and recruiters can quickly recognize relevant experience and accomplishments.

Clear structure, strong positioning, and alignment with the job description typically matter far more than trying to “beat" an ATS system.

What are the biggest resume mistakes job seekers make?

One of the most common mistakes I see is resumes that focus heavily on responsibilities instead of results.

Recruiters already understand the general responsibilities of most roles. What they want to quickly understand is the difference you made in that role.

Strong resumes highlight:

• improvements created

• problems solved

• efficiencies introduced

• leadership demonstrated
• measurable outcomes

Another common challenge is that many resumes bury their strongest accomplishments deep in the document instead of positioning them where recruiters will see them quickly.

Should I tailor my resume for every job application?

Tailoring your resume can significantly improve your chances of receiving an interview.

Hiring managers want to quickly understand how your experience connects to the needs of the role. When your resume highlights accomplishments and experience that align with that role, it becomes much easier for employers to see your potential fit.

Tailoring a resume does not mean rewriting the entire document each time. Often, it involves adjusting your professional summary, highlighting the most relevant accomplishments, and aligning your language with the priorities of the role.

A targeted resume helps recruiters recognize your value more quickly.

How far back should a resume go?

In most cases, a resume should focus primarily on the last 10–15 years of experience, particularly if those roles are most relevant to your current career direction.

Earlier experience can still be included if it adds meaningful context, industry expertise, or leadership history. In those cases, I often use an Additional Experience section to highlight older but relevant roles separately from the main Professional Experience section, allowing that background to be included without taking up too much space.

The key is ensuring the most recent and most relevant accomplishments are clearly emphasized so recruiters can quickly understand your current value.

How many jobs should I apply to each day?

There is no perfect number of job applications per day.

Many job seekers assume that submitting as many applications as possible will increase their chances of success. In reality, a more effective approach is focusing on quality and alignment rather than volume.

Targeting roles that closely match your experience, tailoring your resume when needed, and combining applications with networking often produce stronger results than submitting large numbers of generic applications.

A thoughtful job search strategy typically generates more interviews and stronger opportunities.

If you’re tired of applying to dozens of jobs and hearing nothing back, this video shows smarter job search strategies that can help you get noticed faster.

How long does it take to find a new job?

The timeline for finding a new role can vary depending on several factors, including industry demand, experience level, geographic location, and how targeted the job search strategy is.

For many professionals, a job search can take several months, particularly in competitive markets.

While the timeline isn’t always predictable, focusing on the factors within your control — such as resume clarity, networking, and positioning — can significantly improve your chances of gaining traction.

Most professionals experience a rapid increase in interview activity once we work together to clearly position and align their experience with the roles they are targeting.

Still have questions?

If you’ve been applying to roles and not hearing back, you’re not alone. Many professionals reach out after months of submitting applications with little response.

Often, the issue isn’t a lack of experience — it’s that your experience isn’t being clearly positioned across your resume, interviews, and overall job search strategy.

A few strategic changes can make a significant difference in how employers evaluate your candidacy.
